“O LORD, my strength and my stronghold, and my refuge in the day of distress, to You the nations will come from the ends of the earth and say, “Our fathers have inherited nothing but falsehood, Futility and things of no profit” ( Jer 16:19).
Jeremiah was the prophet in Judah’s last hour, as he pointed out their idolatry. He was also a prophet to the nations, as God also judged the sins of Judah’s neighbors. So, Jeremiah stood alone, and yet he was not alone. Faith relied on the reality of God’s power and trusted in the invisible God, visible by faith, to strengthen him in is prophetic task. Despite being in the small minority, God’s truth informed him that the popular idols of the world were nothing but delusion and vanity. So, I can learn to always find in my God the source of never-ending strength.
“Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD And whose trust is the LORD. For he will be like a tree planted by the water, That extends its roots by a stream And will not fear when the heat comes; But its leaves will be green, And it will not be anxious in a year of drought Nor cease to yield fruit” (Jer 17:7-8).
