All in Perseverance
Our lesson is this. Set your goals for the future, and set them high. But recognize that it’s the little, day-by-day moments, the often forgotten moments, accumulated through the years, that truly shape our destiny.
A good place to begin determining the “point” of the book of Psalms would be to look at the beginning.
Before God-given ability can be put to effective use, there is the prerequisite of knowledge.
“Which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it? Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish.’” (Luke 14:28-30)
When one becomes a Christian, the concept of time changes and produces a rather oxymoronic situation: While there is a keen knowledge that the grave is coming and that every opportunity in this life should be seized for God’s glory, there is also the realization that the people of God have transitioned to eternal life.
Christians have a responsibility that never needs to be put on hiatus: Praying for those in government to make godly decisions.
Life comes with struggle and suffering. Solomon said that for everything there is a season. Life has its ups and downs, but especially when we’re personally in “a down” it can feel like life is mostly made up of downs.
We have had those troubles, various and difficult, that leave us lying awake at night. When we try to think, it only makes us moan. When we try to put it to words, we fail. Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ felt similarly when he cried out on the cross, “My God! My God! Why have you forsaken me?”
Faith is sometimes sold in a style similar to “made for tv” products. The sales pitch is spectacular, the results seem wonderful, and the journey appears to be easy.
