“Why do you call Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?” (Luke 6:46).
The Lord Jesus asks a very startling and penetrating question for us today. Many say they believe in Jesus as their Savior. Around Christmas, many will sing, “Oh, come let us adore Him….” but for the rest of the year they will IGNORE HIM and His commands! Others will sing, “Let earth receive her King….” but then treat Jesus as if he gives nice suggestions, not authoritative commands of a Sovereign King of the soul.
Jesus is not impressed at all by lip-service. “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter” (Matt 7:21). Jesus wants our life-service. This yields the best life both here and here after. – Frank Walton
